George & Megan Shinn Open Doors for Mary Sunshine House with Successful Car Auction

Program Supporting Autistic adults received generous support at GAA

Greensboro, N.C., April 30, 2024– George and Megan Shinn tapped their private collection on Saturday at the Greensboro Classic Auto Auction (GAA) and donated a unique 2012 Ford Mustang to Mary Sunshine House (MSH), a specialized residential community for adults on the autism spectrum.

The Boss 302 from the George Shinn Collection was sold on Saturday for $65,000. In addition to the car, Mr. Shinn pledged an additional $12,000 and challenged the audience to meet his match who responded with resounding support and raised a total of $142,000 for the charity. “We are honored and humbled by George and Megan’s generosity which sparked significant support from the crowd at the auction” said Lori Pendergraph, MSH Founder/Board President. “I can’t think of a better way to wrap up April which is Autism Acceptance Month across the nation and deeply thank everyone who donated to support our mission. April is
a designated time which promotes acceptance for Autism that occurs in 1 of every 36 children in the United States.”

MSH is a specialized independent living community for adults 22 years and older who experience Autism. This community offers 10 newly renovated apartments with two bedrooms, one bath and all new appliances to the residents. Opened in the Fall of 2023, there are currently four residents and several applications under consideration.

MSH is located in Central, SC within walking distance to Southern Wesleyan University. Clemson Area Transit (CATbus) offers free transportation to Central and the surrounding areas of Clemson, Pendleton, and Seneca. Mary Sunshine House was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2017 by a group of visionaries working to make a difference for their autistic adult children. In the following years, a board was formed with a plan to model the program after a similar successful one in the California East Bay Area.

“I was excited by the sale and am thrilled to support Mary Sunshine House, whose mission has touched my heart personally. I grew up loving cars and see this as a way to give back and make a difference,” said George Shinn. Both George and Megan Shinn were on site to celebrate and urge the audience to participate in this successful event.
